Abstract
Following a request from the European Commission, the Panel on Dietetic Products, Nutrition and Allergies was asked to provide a scientific opinion on a list of health claims pursuant to Article 13 of Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006. This opinion addresses the scientific substantiation of health claims in relation to various food(s)/food constituent(s) not supported by pertinent human data. The scientific substantiation is based on the information provided by the Member States in the consolidated list of Article 13 health claims and references that EFSA has received from Member States or directly from stakeholders. The references provided in relation to the claims evaluated in this opinion included studies which assessed the effects of food(s)/food constituent(s) other than the food(s)/food constituent(s) which are the subject of the claims, and/or investigated health outcomes unrelated to the claimed effects. No human studies, which investigated the effects of the food(s)/food constituent(s) on appropriate measures of the claimed effects, were provided. The Panel considers that no conclusions can be drawn from any of the references provided for the scientific substantiation of the claims evaluated in this opinion. On the basis of the data presented, the Panel concludes that a cause and effect relationship has not been established between the consumption of the food(s)/food constituent(s) and the claimed effects evaluated in this opinion.
