Abstract
First part of the book discusses the political representation of women globally. Why are women under-represented? The second part analyses quota discourses - pro et con. Following a discussion of the disparate use of the concept of 'effectiveness' of gender quotas, the book discusses the effect of electoral gender quotas on the descriptive, substantive and symbolic representation of women, based on recent scientific literature.
